Ahead of Super Garuda Shield, US Sends Several Defense Systems

Less than two weeks before the Super Garuda Shield 2024 multi-national joint exercise (latgabma), the United States has begun sending a number of major weapons systems (alutsista) that will be used in the large-scale exercise. A number of military vehicles, including combat helicopters and military transport vehicles, were unloaded from the American-flagged MV Cape Husdon ship anchored at Tanjung Wangi Pier, Banyuwangi, on Monday (12/8). In a press statement received by VOA, the Commander of the Banyuwangi Navy Base, Lieutenant Colonel (P) Hafidz, M.Tr.Opsla, called the joint exercise that will take place from August 25 to September 5 as a “routine annual multilateral military exercise.” The exercise will be held by the Indonesian National Army (TNI) together with the US Armed Forces, and a number of friendly countries' troops. The Indonesian Navy has deployed Banyuwangi Naval Base soldiers to secure Tanjung Wangi Pier, starting from D-1 until the completion of the Super Garuda Shield activity.
