A U.S. Army intelligence analyst pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of conspiring to sell military secrets to China, the U.S. Justice Department said. Korbein Schultz was charged in March with conspiring to disclose national defense information by exporting defense articles and technical data without authorization, and with bribing a public official. Schultz, who had authority to access top secrets, conspired with a person living in Hong Kong, whom he alleged was connected to the Chinese government, to collect national defense information, including classified information and technical data related to U.S. military weapons systems, in exchange for money, according to the indictment and plea documents. “Governments like China aggressively target our military personnel and national security information, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that information is protected from hostile foreign governments,” FBI Executive Assistant Director Robert Wells said in a statement. Before he was arrested, Schultz sent dozens of sensitive and restricted, but unclassified, military documents, the Justice Department said.
