Ukraine Successfully Strengthens Position in Kursk Region, Russia

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Saturday that Ukrainian forces had managed to strengthen their positions and expand their area of control in Russia's Kursk region, nearly two weeks after their offensive. Ukraine says it has captured more than 80 settlements covering 1,150 square kilometers in Kursk since August 6. Zelenskyy added that his military chief, Oleksander Syrskyi, reported continued successes of Ukrainian forces, including the capture of more Russian servicemen. “Thanks to all the soldiers and commanders who captured the Russian servicemen, as well as expedited the release of our servicemen and civilians held by Russia,” Zelenskyy said in a statement on the Telegram app. “General Syrskyi also reported that our troops have strengthened their positions in Kursk and managed to steadily expand the area,” he said. Ukraine's military daily reported that its troops had advanced further in Kursk, without providing specific details. Earlier, it had reported that Ukrainian troops had advanced 35 km.
