Turkey's embargo on trade with Israel has come under fire amid opposition claims that it is being repeatedly violated. As VOA Istanbul correspondent Dorian Jones reports, the accusations are being made as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan tries to play a central role in efforts to stop Israel's war against Hamas. Protests against trade with Israel continue across Turkey. Opposition parties are constantly posting images on social media condemning trade with Israel and blaming Turkish President Erdogan. The demonstrations are being held despite official figures showing that bilateral trade of seven billion dollars has dropped to zero. Mr Erdogan imposed a trade embargo on Israel in May. But analysts say trade is continuing through third parties. “We have to understand that some of this trade will continue. It will be diverted towards third countries and trade will follow this path”, says Sinan Ulgen from the Center for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies. Turkish news network Evrensel has revealed that despite Turkish companies registering zero exports to Israel, their exports to the Palestinian territories have increased 1000%.
