Donald Trump's recent frantic attacks on his Truth Social platform and in his speeches, combined with his at-times "wooden" demeanor, is less a sign that well-received Democratic National Convention is getting to him than it is he is a signal that he's worried about a jail sentence being announced before the election. That is the opinion of former Trump lawyer and "fixer" Michael Cohen who spoke with Salon's Brian Karem, a former White House reporter, this week as they both attended the DNC in Chicago. In his column for Salon, Karem reported on a conversation he had with Cohen — an avid Trump critic — as they shared a Lyft on the way to a convention event.ALSO READ: ‘Stop the Steal’ organizer hired by Trump campaign for Election 2024 endgameCohen said of the convention, "I’ve never seen anything like this. The energy is overwhelming," before adding, "... but there’s something else bothering Donald Trump."What that is is the possibility that Manhattan Judge Merchan could announce jail time for Trump for his 34-count felony conviction before the election, even if the former president is not immediately taken into custody.Karem explained, "While there is speculation the sentencing could once again be delayed, Cohen is skeptical that will happen and believes Trump may be sentenced to prison, though he also believes Trump won’t be taken into custody until after the November general election."As Cohen explained, "The way Trump thinks, is if it’s 60 or 90 days out, it’s not anything to worry about. But once he gets it on his calendar, once it gets close then he doesn’t stop thinking about it. He obsesses about it. And if he is sentenced to prison, he knows that a significant number of Republicans will not vote for him. He’s afraid of all of that.”"Cohen believes Trump’s fueled rage and despair could eventually cause him to implode," the Salon columnist added. You can read his column here.
