Moscow Claims to Thwart 'Massive' Drone Attack on Russia

Moscow said on Sunday (1/9) that it had thwarted a series of “massive” drone attacks on western Russia and another targeting the capital. “Our troops managed to repel the UAV attack attempt (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle“/drone- ed) large-scale attacks on the Bryansk region” bordering Ukraine,” said regional governor Aleksandr Bogomaz. The Russian military managed to “identify and destroy” at least 26 drones, without causing any casualties or damage, Bogomaz said on Telegram. Earlier, he said on August 21 that the military had thwarted an attempt by a Ukrainian “reconnaissance-sabotage group” to cross into Bryansk. The city of Kursk, which borders Russia, has been under Ukrainian attack since August 6. Throughout Saturday (31/8) night until Sunday (1/9), five drones aimed at the capital were successfully disabled by Russian troops, said Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. The attack came more than a week after Sobyanin called the drone strike “one of the largest in history” on Moscow, with authorities reporting 11 aircraft destroyed.
