Jakarta Dressed Up to Welcome Pope Francis

JAKARTA (AFP) — Jakarta on Monday (2/9) seemed busy decorating itself to welcome the arrival of Pope Francis with great enthusiasm. Large billboards, papal stamps, and life-size cutouts of the Pope were seen decorating various corners to welcome the arrival of the great leader of the Catholic community. The pope began the longest and most distant trip in his papacy on Monday evening, spending three nights in Jakarta on a 12-day trip before continuing on to Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and Singapore. The government is preparing Jakarta for the arrival of the 87-year-old Pope on Tuesday (3/9). The Pope's visit to Indonesia will focus on issues of interfaith relations.
