Joint US-Iraqi Strike Kills 15 ISIS Members in Western Iraq

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said Friday (30/8) that a joint operation by American and Iraqi forces killed 15 ISIS members in western Iraq. The strike targeted ISIS leaders and was carried out early Thursday. CENTCOM said on the social media platform X that the strike resulted in the deaths of 15 ISIS members with no indication of civilian casualties. CENTCOM said the ISIS fighters were “armed with a variety of weapons, grenades, and 'suicide' explosive belts.” The statement also said Iraqi forces continued to “further exploit the invaded location.” It only said the operation took place in “western Iraq.” “ISIS remains a threat to the region, our allies, and our homeland. U.S. CENTCOM, along with our coalition and Iraqi partners, will continue to aggressively pursue these terrorists,” he added. The operation comes as Baghdad and Washington hold talks on the presence of anti-jihadist coalition forces in Iraq. Although Iraq has stated its intention to withdraw all its troops, no firm timetable has been published. The United States has about 2,500 troops in Iraq and 900 in Syria as part of the international coalition fighting the Islamic State group.
