NAIROBI, Kenya — The number of children killed in a fire at a school dormitory in central Kenya has risen to 21, a government spokesman said Saturday (7/9) Officials began removing the bodies of the children as they try to locate dozens of boys who are still missing. Journalists were directed to wait outside the Hillside Endarasha Primary School compound as a team comprising government pathologists and morticians from Nyeri provincial hospital set up a table outside the dormitory on Saturday. A fire on Thursday (September 5) night destroyed a dormitory housing 156 boys aged 10 to 14. More than 100 boys are known to be missing and the government is urging parents and people living near the private school to help find the boys. Government spokesman Isaac Mwaura appealed to the public to be patient as government agencies comb the scene to determine the death toll and the cause of the fire.
