Phnom Penh, Cambodia — Cambodia recently received military equipment, including pistols, rifles, and ammunition, worth $500,000 (around 7.7 billion rupiah) from the Indonesian government. The aid distributed by Indonesia to Cambodia on August 29 included 150 rifles; 20 G2 Elites pistols; 500 thousand M16 bullets; and 500 thousand pistols. Geopolitical observers see the aid as a positive sign that could build good relations between the two countries and modernize Cambodia's military, as well as quell criticism from the West that Cambodia is leaning towards China. In addition, observers also see it as strategic military diplomacy by Indonesia, a member of the ASEAN bloc that wants to prove that it also has military influence in the region.
