Serbia demands the return of the “previous situation” in the north of Kosovo

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said on Friday that his country seeks the return to the “status quo ante” (previous situation) in the north of Kosovo, as a way to overcome the situation created by what he described as Pristina's intention to the persecution of the Serbian population. At a press conference, he said that Belgrade would launch a “global diplomatic campaign” to achieve the fulfillment of demands related to what he said had been reached in talks brokered by the European Union. “We demand the announcement and holding of free and democratic local elections in the north of Kosovo, with the participation of the mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the supervision of the European Union. The return of Serbs to the Kosovo Police Regional Directorate for the North and the return of Serbian judges and prosecutors to their judicial functions.
