Kosovo, the new school year begins

More than 300,000 students in Kosovo started the new school year on Monday, amid concerns raised by the opposition about delayed preparations by the government and warnings by unions of strikes and other union actions if their demands are not met. The United Education Union, among other things, demands an increase in salaries for teachers, while warning of union actions if the dialogue with the institutions does not yield results. The union of the private sector of Kosovo had announced a strike of technical employees in the schools of Pristina. However, the head of this union, Jusuf Azemi, said today in a press conference that the administration of the capital has already met the demands for salary increases of these employees. “For high school employees, their 400 euro gross salary starts on October 1st, and since the government of Kosovo pays the salary tax, these workers will have a salary increase of 130 euros from October 1st. Meanwhile, from September 10, elementary school workers will receive a salary of 380 euros net. said Mr. Azemi.
