NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Supreme Court ruled that a trial court should not have dismissed a criminal defendant’s charges related to possession of marijuana, a firearm and drug paraphernalia. Though municipal decriminalization of small amounts of cannabis muddy the probable cause analysis, the police did not illegally search the vehicle out of suspicion because it smelled like marijuana after their drug-sniffing dog noticed marijuana odors.
