Russia Creates a New Kamikaze Drone Using Chinese Machines

Russia has reportedly been producing a new long-range attack drone called the Garpiya-A1 since last year, using Chinese engines and parts. Moscow is said to have used the drone in the conflict in Ukraine, according to two European intelligence sources and documents obtained by Reuters. Reuters. Intelligence information indicates that IEMZ Kupol produced more than 2,500 Garpiya units from July 2023 to July 2024. IEMZ Kupol is a subsidiary of the Russian state-owned Almaz-Antey, which is engaged in arms production. The existence of a new Russian drone using Chinese technology has not been previously reported. IEMZ Kupol and Almaz-Antey did not respond to requests for comment. Both intelligence sources said Garpiya was used to attack military and civilian targets in Ukraine, causing damage to vital infrastructure and causing casualties among both civilians and military. Garpiya itself means Harpy in Russian, which is a creature in Greek mythology that is half woman and half bird.
