Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will attend the upcoming summit of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) group of leading developing nations in Russia, state media quoted Tehran's ambassador to Moscow as saying on Sunday (15/9). The meeting comes amid tensions with the West over military cooperation between the two countries. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Tuesday that Russia has received ballistic missiles from Iran and is likely to use them in Ukraine within weeks. Cooperation between Moscow and Tehran threatens broader European security, he said. The US, Germany, Britain and France on Tuesday (10/9) imposed new sanctions on Iran, including measures against its national airline, Iran Air. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Wednesday that Tehran did not send ballistic missiles to Russia and that sanctions imposed by the US and three European countries on Iran were not a solution. Iran's ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali confirmed Sunday that Pezeshkian will attend the BRICS summit of major emerging economies, scheduled to be held in Kazan, Russia from Oct. 22 to Oct. 24, according to state media.
