Eight candidates vying for Uvalde school board spots

In a last-minute rush, eight candidates have applied for the five open spots on the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District board of trustees – and, with one day before the deadline, only one current board member has filed for reelection. The deadline for filing is 5 p.m. Feb. 13 for the May 2 election. Write-in candidates can file through Feb. 17. East zone Russell Becker, Fernando Fernandez, Richard Causey and Sergio R. Ortiz have applied for the two east zone positions that will be up for election in May.
