Ukraine Brings Back 175 Defenders from Captivity

Ukraine and Russia conducted another prisoner exchange in a 175-for-175 format. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to him, this is one of the largest exchanges. Among those returned are fighters from the Armed Forces, Navy, National Guard, Territorial Defense Forces, and the Border Service. They served in Mariupol, at Azovstal, in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, as well as in Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Kursk regions. Along with the prisoners of war, Ukraine also brought back 22 severely wounded Ukrainian soldiers and those who had been illegally convicted in Russia on fabricated charges. According to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, among those rescued from Russian captivity this time were 166 rank-and-file soldiers and sergeants, as well as nine officers. The exchange was facilitated by the United Arab Emirates. All those returned home will immediately receive necessary medical and psychological assistance. On March 18, Russian leader Vladimir Putin mentioned the prisoner exchange in a conversation with former U.S. President Donald Trump. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed this, stating that the exchange had been planned in advance. Read also: Zelenskyу to hold phone call with Trump today.
