Baltic and Nordic states appeal to EU to look into Hungary’s decision on easy entry for Russians

Baltic and Nordic states' ministers have submitted a letter to EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson addressing the Hungary issue. Margus Tsahkna, Estonia's Foreign Minister, published the text of the letter on X on August 16. The states ask the EU to address Hungary's new policy on entry for Russians and Belarusians. It allows Russia to conduct its hybrid attacks against the EU such as acts of sabotage. "We must continue raising the cost of the war for Russia and isolating Russia internationally for as long as the aggression in Ukraine continues, not make it easier for Russian citizens to enter the free and democratic world to enjoy everything they are trying to take from Ukraine," says the letter. Tsahkna himself reiterated that such policy can't be "justified" under current circumstances. In July, Hungary granted Belarusians and Russians a permission for easier entry to the country which allows them to effortlessly enter other Schengen countries.
