Ukraine celebrates Independence Day

Today, August 24, Ukraine celebrates the 33rd anniversary of its independence. On August 24, 1991, the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR adopted a resolution on the proclamation of Independence of Ukraine and the Act of Proclamation of Independence of Ukraine, which was confirmed by the people in an all-Ukrainian referendum on December 1, 1991. For the third year, Ukraine has celebrated Independence Day in the context of a full-scale war unleashed by the Russian Federation. Since 2014, this day has acquired even greater significance, because Ukrainians have to resist Russian aggression for their freedom, liberty and independence. August 24 is and will always be a symbolic and very important day for Ukrainians. Tribute to the unconquered spirit of the Ukrainian people is also expressed in the world. Thus, today the statue of Christ the Savior in Rio de Janeiro, the main bridge of Budapest, the buildings of the Finnish city of Tampere and other landmarks will be illuminated in blue and yellow colors.
