Despite Russia's obvious unwillingness to stop the war, Ukraine remains consistent on this path and is preparing for the Second Global Peace Summit. This was stated today, August 27, by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a press conference during the forum "Ukraine 2024. Independence". He noted that during the latest massive attacks, the Russian army launched 230 strikes against Ukraine, which contradicts the statements of some countries that Moscow is allegedly trying to stop the war. "We cannot say that Russia, as some fellow leaders say, really wants to stop the war, we just need to agree. When they want to, they do not launch 230 strikes and do not kill people, children. Therefore, their desire is understandable to us - their lack of it is understandable to us," the president noted. At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine continues to work on the implementation of the three points of the peace formula that were discussed at the first summit and is preparing for the second. "We are consistent. We had an inaugural peace summit. After that, we said that we would prepare a document on the three main areas that were set by the first inaugural summit. There will be meetings, offline, online, it is not important today… An online meeting was held, the energy issue was raised and a detailed document is being prepared. It will be, all positions will be agreed upon at this meeting with our colleagues. The second meeting is on the sea, the third meeting is the humanitarian aspect: on the exchange [of prisoners] and the return of children. All these three points will be worked out. And the entire document - I think that we will do all this and have time for November - will be this document. It is our task to make this document as a preparatory point or stage for the second Peace Summit,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine is not ready to exchange its territories for security guarantees, or within the framework of any negotiations. The President categorically answered the question of a CNN journalist whether Ukraine, given the difficult situation at the front, is considering the option of giving up part of Ukraine's territory for certain security guarantees, if the talks are about NATO membership guarantees. "We are not ready to exchange our territory within the framework of any negotiations," the head of state said. When asked whether Ukraine would be able to defeat the Russian Federation by military means, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that "it will depend on the support of colleagues." He recalled that partners recently transferred F-16 aircraft to Ukraine. "During a massive missile attack, these aircraft managed to shoot down several missiles. This is a very good result. But we still have a few F-16s," the President noted. He expressed hope that partners will work a little faster in supplying weapons to Ukraine.
