Putin is conducting hybrid attacks, with Germany being a key target, according to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with Funke Mediengruppe. Pistorius explained that the aim of these attacks is not just to cause damage but also to destabilize society and manipulate public opinion. He highlighted the need for Germany to actively counter such threats, which include attacks on infrastructure and energy supplies, malicious activities in the North and Baltic Seas, and violations of airspace rules. He also pointed to social media campaigns, interference in election processes, and financial support for narratives from groups like the AfD and SPD, which claim Germany prioritizes war over national defense. “All of this is part of Putin’s strategy to destabilize German society and create division. We must do everything possible to ensure this strategy fails,” Pistorius stated. Earlier, Pistorius stated that he could envision German troops being deployed to Ukraine, but only under the condition of a ceasefire. "I want to make one thing very clear: as long as the war continues, there will not be a single German soldier on Ukrainian soil. The question arises as to when a ceasefire or peace might come—and what that will look like," Pistorius said. The minister hinted that Germany could play a role in stabilizing the situation in Ukraine after a potential ceasefire, emphasizing that such a step would depend on the specific terms and conditions of the peace agreement.
