Ukraine can use French weapons to strike targets in Russia, but not Kremlin – Macron’s advisor

Ukraine can use French-provided weapons to strike any military targets in Russia that pose a threat to Ukraine, but not the Kremlin. Emmanuel Bonne, a foreign policy advisor to French President Emmanuel Macron, stated this in a comment to Ukrinform on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington. "Ukraine can hit Russian territory with French weapons - this was announced publicly," Bonne said. He also clarified: "But I mean, we said - given that the Russians are moving military capabilities to the border with Ukraine with the aim of penetrating into Ukraine, it is necessary and logical that the Ukrainians should be allowed to strike these capabilities." "So there is a certain nuance, which is that the Ukrainians can use what we give them to strike the objects that the Russians are mobilizing to use to continue the war. But this does not mean that they can strike the Kremlin tomorrow," Bonne said. Asked if he thought the United States would follow France's example, he said he could not give a specific answer. Earlier reports said that the United States had not changed its position on restrictions on the use of U.S.-made weapons by Ukraine's Armed Forces to strike military targets inside Russia. The NATO summit was held in Washington on July 9-11. President Volodymyr Zelensky led the Ukrainian delegation at the summit.
