At the conclusion of the 75th NATO Summit in Washington, D.C., participants adopted the Ukraine Compact. Following the meeting, the leaders of Ukraine, the United States, 21 other NATO countries, the EU and Japan signed the Ukraine Compact, a multilateral document containing commitments to support Ukraine. The document aims to "accelerate collective efforts to meet Ukraine's comprehensive security needs". In it, the signatory states commit to fulfil their obligations under bilateral security treaties, namely To support Ukraine's urgent defence and security needs, including through continued provision of security assistance and training, modern military equipment, and defence industry. Accelerate efforts to build Ukraine's future armed forces. In the event of a future armed attack by Russia on Ukraine after the end of the current hostilities, meet quickly and collectively at the highest level to determine appropriate next steps in support of Ukraine, including providing rapid and sustained security assistance and imposing economic and other penalties on Russia. The treaty is open for accession by other states. It will operate in parallel with Ukraine's progress towards EU and NATO membership. This document was a supplement to the G7 Joint Declaration agreed a year ago at the previous NATO Summit in Vilnius. In total, 32 participants who attended the summit have already joined it.
