Borrell calls on for more air defence for Ukraine as Kyiv faces another major Russian attack

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has urged allies to keep boosting Ukraine's air defence after Russia attacked Kyiv during a 7-hour air raid siren in the capital. "Kyiv was the target of yet another massive wave of Russian attacks last night. These relentless incursions to destroy life and key infrastructure are met with admirable resilience. But the Ukrainians need help. Providing urgently more air defence and military equipment is critical," Borrell wrote on X. On the night of July 31, Ukrainian air forces destroyed 89 Russian Shaheds, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Around 40 of those were shot down over Kyiv. The President noted that the air forces handled the attack well because this time they could rely on enough air defence missiles. "This is an important result. Ukrainians can fully protect their skies from Russian strikes when they have sufficient supplies," Ukraine's President stressed. Earlier, the U.S. has pledged to equip F-16s for Ukraine with missiles and bombs produced in the United States.
