PUNTERS witnessed the staging of the group three President’s Cup that went over the distance of 1,900 metres on the main course at Santa Rosa Park on June 22. When the field of eight was sent by starter Wayne Campbell the trio of In The Headlines; Crown Prince and Hello World pulled their way to the front. As the runners passed by the winning line for the first time filly In The Headlines had a narrow advantage over her rivals. Continuing up the back stretch the contest began to take shape with chestnut filly In The Headlines still having a slight advantage over her rivals. Then stable companion Princess Aruna and Stroke Of Luck began to take closer orders as the contest once again started to take shape again. Approaching the 800 metres mark, Hello World found a second gear and joined stablemates Princess Aruna and In The Headlines just leaving Stroke Of Luck motionless into fourth. With the heat being turned on upfront by the O’Brien trio of Hello World, In The Headlines and Princess Aruna another stablemate Crown Prince started throwing down the gauntlet at the other rivals. With the field now approaching 400 metres the trio of Hello World, Crown Prince and In The Headlines were all locked together. As the trio turned for home Hello World found another gear and kicked some two lengths clear of his stablemates. The contest was now on for the minor positions. But filly In The Headlines found another lease of life now leaving Crown Prince back in third. With hooves rattling Hello World found seventh gear and scooted clear of his stable companion going on to take the contest by seven lengths. Jockey Dillon Khelawan booted home four winners and apprentice Tristan Phillips and Nela Mohammed with one winner each. Whilst in the trainers category champion trainer John O’Brien saddled two winners on the day’s card and trainers Fred De Freitas, Ramesh Ramroop, Jimmy Rampersad and Harry Singh each saddled one winner. Racing action takes a two week break and will resume on July 13. The post Hello World wins President’s Cup appeared first on Trinidad and Tobago Newsday.
