THE police have said 49 Venezuelans were apprehended for illegal entry into the country during exercises on August 10 and 11. Of these, 41 were women and eight were men. In a statement on August 11, the police said a well-co-ordinated operation was done by the Immigration Investigations Unit, Immigration Division, Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), and Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Task Force between 11 pm on August 10 and 6 am on August 11. It said officers searched multiple locations across the Central Division, based on intelligence. Those held are to be transferred to the Immigration Detention Centre in Aripo for further processing. The police said the exercise took place without incident. It was part of the ongoing efforts by the Immigration Division and the police Immigration Investigations Unit of the CID/Criminal Records Office (CRO) to ensure compliance with immigration laws.
