Freeport man shot dead after liming

A MAN was shot and killed near Telia Tequila Sports Bar in St Mary’s Village, Freeport, on the night of August 11. The police said Virgil Saunders and a group of others had been liming earlier at the bar at the Southern Main Road. At around 10.30 pm, he was walking towards his car when a gunman started shooting. Only Saunders was hit. He fell to the ground as other people ran for cover. The killer was believed to have been hiding and waiting for Saunders in nearby bushes. The police believe the motive was revenge for a shooting either late last year or early this year in the Central Division. Saunders, a construction worker, was thought to be linked to that shooting. Investigators were unable to give details of that previous shooting. Central Division and Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three police, including Cpl Griffith and PC Bhola, visited the scene and gathered evidence. An autopsy is expected to be done later in the week at the Forensic Science Centre in St James. The killer remained at large up to the afternoon of August 12. Investigations are ongoing.
