Cardinals Football Academy lifted the Next Level Consulting Ltd (NLCL) Under-11 Community Summer Cup on August 11 when they got a 2-0 victory over Cox Football Academy at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. After brushing aside Pt Fortin Youth Academy by a 3-0 margin in the semifinal earlier in the day, the Cardinals youngsters showed their feat was no fluke as they took care of the Palo Seco-based Cox Football Academy team in the finale. In the 26-minute encounter, Cardinals got their goals from Elijah Morris and tournament MVP and top-scorer, Kareq Sheppard, to storm away with the NLCL bragging rights in the nine-team tournament. Pt Fortin shrugged off their semifinal disappointment to grab third spot, with Malachi Joseph, son of TT international forward Marcus Joseph, grabbing a double in a 3-1 win against outgoing champions Creek Sports and Cultural Club. Creek Sports and Cultural Club agonisingly missed out on a spot in the final after losing 5-4 to Cox Football Academy on penalty kicks in their semifinal encounter.
