THE police have laid two kidnapping charges against a Penal man in connection with the abduction of a Venezuelan father and son. He was charged on August 13. Isaiah Sorzano, 19, appeared before Master Shabiki Cazabon on August 14 on the two kidnapping charges. He was granted $90,000 bail and is to report to the Penal Police Station. Sorzano was also put on a 10 pm to 5 am curfew and ordered to stay away from the alleged victims. He was represented by attorneys Keron Ramkhalwhan and Lloyd Robinson at the hearing. On August 12, Justice Carol Gobin granted a writ of habeas corpus filed by Sorzano’s attorneys the day before ordering the police to either charge or release him. He was held on August 8 in connection with the kidnapping of a Venezuelan father and son. It is alleged the victims went to a fast food restaurant on Independence Square, Port of Spain, on August 7 after responding to a Facebook marketplace advertisement for a job. They went into a car and were taken to a location in San Fernando. Investigators said a ransom of US$900 was made and TT$2,500 was paid. The father was reportedly released in the wee hours of morning on August 8, and another ransom demand was made for the child’s release. Officers of the Anti Kidnapping Unit rescued the child in the Bath Street, Port of Spain area. The matter has been transferred to Master Sarah de Silva and Sorzano will return to court on October 29, 2025 for a sufficiency hearing.
