Two Morvant men escaped serious injury when the car they were in crashed into a concrete bridge off Churchill Roosevelt Highway on August 17. Workers at the Cipriani College of Labour and Co-Operative Studies, Valsayn, said around 3.15 pm they heard a bang but saw nothing. They thought an accident occurred on the westbound side of the highway. However, when someone went to check, they saw a car in a ditch next to the school’s entrance. They heard a man in the car saying he could not breathe. A staff member contacted the ambulance driver located on the school’s compound for a Port Authority Sports and Family Day which was taking place on the eastern side of the compound. Newsday was told the passenger was slipping in and out of consciousness, had short-term memory loss and his left foot was broken and was trapped under the dashboard. The driver too suffered a broken leg but, besides some cuts and bruises, was comparatively well enough to move. “His friend was trapped and couldn’t remember the day or month or where they were headed so he didn’t want to leave him in the car alone. So he waited until the fire officers came so they could both get out.” The two men were identified as Nyle Hope, the driver of a Hundai Elantra who was heading east along the highway with his passenger Nicholas Bobb. They were heading to Piarco. San Juan Fire Station got the report around 3.20 pm and acting sub-officer Callender and officers Cameron, Mc Intyre, John, Balkaran and Williams arrived on scene ten minutes later. They had to use the apparatus called the Jaws of Life to cut out the car's front door to extract the men who were then lifted from the wreck on stretchers. They were treated on the scene and later taken to hospital. The post Two men hurt in Churchill Roosevelt highway crash appeared first on Trinidad and Tobago Newsday.
