AG hosts retreat ahead of financial task force evaluation

ATTORNEY General Reginald Armour has held a retreat in St Joseph with different people and groups, in preparation for Trinidad and Tobago's next evaluation of its anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing measures, later this year. A statement issued on August 8 by the Office of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs (OAGLA) said the retreat took place at Soledad Estate, Maracas St Joseph. National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds, Minister in the Ministry of National Security Keith Scotland, Minister in the OAGLA Renuka Sagramsingh-Sooklal and several other senior government officials. The OAGLA said since 2016, Trinidad and Tobago has been undergoing regular reviews by the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF) to demonstrate the effectiveness of its anti-money laundering and counter-financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) regime. The retreat was an important exercise in the preparation of individuals and entities who play key roles in ensuring the effectiveness of this regime. The OAGLA said the retreat, "fostered candid dialogue, strategised on critical issues, and aimed to strengthen inter-ministerial and inter-departmental and Institutional coordination in a whole of Trinidad and Tobago endeavour."
