Art exhibition scrutinizes relationship between AI, morality

An exhibition entitled “Utopian Ethical Machine” by technological artist Wang Lien-cheng kicked off Jan. 11 at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in the central city of Taichung, inviting audiences to reflect on the ethics of artificial intelligence. According to the Ministry of Culture, the show utilizes interactive devices to explore AI’s capacity to understand the moral decision process, as well as the intricate interactions between human beings and machines. In her remarks at the opening ceremony, NTMOFA Director Chen Kuang-yi said that the museum strives to become a major base for scientific and technological art, adding that the event delves into the infinite possibilities of applying advanced technologies in the creative sphere. Wang, who is currently a full-time assistant professor at Taipei National University of Arts in the capital, creates works spanning interactive installations and sound performances. He has cooperated with NTMOFA many times in the past, including his participation in “L'œil du Cyclone,” a collaborative exhibition between the museum and Le Lieu Unique in Nantes, France. The artist’s work has appeared in multiple international art festivals, winning top honors in the Taipei Art Awards, Taipei Digital Art Festival and the U.K.’s Lumen Prize. The current show runs through March. 23, the MOC said. (POC-E) Write to Taiwan Today at ttonline@mofa.gov.tw
