The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that neither Taiwan nor the PRC is subordinate to the other and that China has no jurisdiction over Taiwanese nationals, condemning Beijing’s intimidation of Taiwanese citizens as a severe violation of international human rights norms. The ministry made the remarks following China’s recent announcement of a plan to arrest legislator Puma Shen and the doxxing of Shen and other citizens in Chinese media outlets. The MOFA pledged to continue collaborating closely with other government agencies and global partners to safeguard Taiwanese nationals. It also called on the international community to denounce China’s infringement of individual privacy and work together to deter the authoritarian regime from any further transgressions. In response to the publication of commercial satellite images revealing Shen’s personal and work addresses, the Ministry of Digital Affairs has requested Meta and other social media platforms adhere to their terms of service and delete related information. The MODA said it will continue monitoring social media to prevent the spread of private details, adding that the ministry will continue to protect citizens’ digital human rights through administrative and technical cooperation.
