It is expected to propel the state’s economic growth to lofty levels of the most heavily populated state in India – Uttar Pradesh – which laid down approximately Rs 7,000 crore for the 45-day-long extravaganza. According to the estimate, the Maha Kumbh 2025 will have a multiplier effect on the Uttar Pradesh economy which will reach as high as Rs 2 lakh crore. It is expected that the event’s economic impact will be Rs 2 lakh crore if every forty crore visitors spend Rs 5,000. The news agency IANS quoting industry estimates said that the total expenditure could be Rs 3 lakh crore and it could go up to Rs 4 lakh crore and the per capita spendings could go up to even Rs 10,000. It will also increase nominal and real GDP more than by 1 per cent. "With an expected turnout of 40 crore devotees this year, the Maha Kumbh is projected to generate up to Rs 2 lakh crore in economic growth," he told a news channel recently. Mr Adityanath from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reacted to the Kumbh as the largest temporary city in the world, expecting it to host between 50 lakh to one crore campers at once. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) have estimated and reported that the food & beverages, namely Packaged foods, Water, Biscuits, Juices & Meals etc., have the potential to contribute to Rs. 20000 crore in the total trade. The Traders’ body also revealed that religious items and offerings including oil, lamps, Ganga water, idols, incense sticks, religious books etc, have economic potential and contributes around Rs 20,000 crore. With regard to the making of local and interstate transports and logistics, local and interstate freight and taxis, a business of Rs 10,000 crore per annum is projected while the business pertaining to tour guides, packaged tours and tourism related services will be Rs 10,000 crore per annum, as per the CAIT. Medical camps and temporary medical facilities, Ayurvedic products and medicines could touch Rs 3,000 crore while facilities such as e-ticketing, mobile charging points Wi-Fi services could generate business of Rs 1,000 crore. Cinema, television, print media and other promotional events are expected to fetch Rs 10,000 crore in trade,” the CAIT said. "Maha Kumbh 2025 commences in Prayagraj, bringing together countless people in a sacred confluence of faith, devotion and culture. The Maha Kumbh embodies India's timeless spiritual heritage and celebrates faith and harmony," PM Modi posted on X this morning. "I am happy to see Prayagraj abuzz with countless people coming there, taking the holy dip and seeking blessings. Indian Railways has added nearly 100 trains to make 3,300 trips carrying festival visitors, in addition to regular services to Prayagraj. According to Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, more than 15 lakh foreign tourists are expected to visit the Maha Kumbh. The Tourism Ministry has established a tent city offering facilities such as Ayurveda, Yoga, and Panchakarma to accommodate them, he has said.
