Heavy Rainfall Alerts Issued for Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Other Maharashtra Districts Until June 10: Full IMD Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall alerts for several districts in Maharashtra, including the major cities of Mumbai, Thane, and Pune, which will remain in effect until June 10, 2024. The weather agency has warned of heavy to very heavy rains in these areas over the next few days due to the vigorous monsoon conditions. According to the IMD forecast, widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy falls is expected to continue over the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Mumbai City and its suburbs, until June 10. The downpour is also likely to be intense in the districts of Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg during this period. The districts of Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, and Sangli are also bracing for heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms until the end of this wet spell. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also possible in some areas of these districts, the IMD has warned. The meteorological agency has advised residents to check for regular updates and take necessary precautions given the heavy rainfall forecast. People have been urged to avoid venturing out unnecessarily and to stay away from water bodies and dilapidated structures during intense spells of rain. Authorities in these districts have been instructed to remain vigilant and make adequate arrangements to deal with potential rainfall-related incidents like waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and incidents of house or wall collapses. The current intense wet spell over Maharashtra is due to the strengthening of westerly winds along the west coast and the presence of an offshore trough running from Karnataka to Kerala. These systems are expected to continue enhancing monsoon activity over the region for the next few days. The monsoon arrived in Maharashtra a few days ahead of schedule this year, leading to widespread pre-monsoon showers across the state since late May. With the monsoon now active, heavy spells are expected to continue across most parts of Maharashtra throughout June. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts from the IMD and follow any instructions issued by local authorities during this period of intense rainfall activity.
