Prime Minister Narendra Modi, prior to his significant visit to Ukraine, stated on Wednesday that India supports peace in the turbulent region and emphasized that "this is not an era of war," asserting that conflicts should be resolved through diplomatic means and dialogue. Speaking to the Indian community in Warsaw, Poland, PM Narendra Modi highlighted that India’s traditional policy was to maintain neutrality with all nations. However, he noted that the current stance of India is to build closer relationships with other countries, a point underscored by the enthusiastic chants of "Modi-Modi." He remarked, “Empathy is a core value of Indians. Whenever there is trouble in any nation, India is always among the first to offer assistance... During the Covid pandemic, India prioritized humanity... India extends support to citizens of other nations. Guided by the teachings of Buddha, India advocates for peace over conflict... India supports peace in this region and insists that this is not a time for war. We must unite to address challenges. India emphasizes diplomacy and dialogue,” Modi stated during his three-day visit to Poland. Modi's comments come in advance of his trip to Kyiv, marking the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Ukraine since it gained independence in 1991. Modi, who is traveling to Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelensky, has indicated that he will discuss with the Ukrainian leader his views on achieving a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
