Torrential rain hit Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, resulting in multiple fatalities from rain-related incidents. The heavy downpour caused widespread flooding, disrupting both road and rail traffic. Rivers in both states have overflowed, prompting national and state disaster response teams to evacuate thousands to relief centers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have contacted Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, offering full support from the central government. Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy reported that nine people have died in rain-related incidents across the state. Local administrations in Suryapet, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, and Khammam have evacuated residents from several flood-affected villages to safety. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy conducted an emergency review meeting on Sunday. Hyderabad also experienced heavy rain, resulting in significant waterlogging throughout the city. As a result, all schools in the district have been closed for September. In Khammam, many people found themselves stranded on rooftops due to severe waterlogging. In Telangana, conditions may deteriorate further in some districts. The weather department issued a red alert on Sunday for very heavy to extremely heavy rain in isolated areas of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar districts until 8:30 AM on September 2. In Andhra Pradesh, several regions are also forecasted to experience rainfall, with heavy rain expected in certain areas. Districts including Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Parvatipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Kakinada, and Nandyala are anticipated to see significant rainfall, according to an official statement.
