The Indian Army has appointed a new Corps Commander for the 15 Corps based in Srinagar, who will assume his responsibilities on October 15. The Union Territory will be holding elections after a decade-long hiatus, with voting scheduled from September 18 to October 1 and results to be announced on October 4. Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava has been selected as the next Corps Commander of the Chinar Corps, starting his new role on October 15, as reported by Army officials to ANI. The new Corps Commander has extensive experience in the Kashmir valley and, prior to his new role at Army Headquarters, led a Rashtriya Rifles Force in the region. Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, the current Corps Commander responsible for the security of the Kashmir valley and the Line of Control, will continue in his position until he transitions to the role of Director General of Military Operations, succeeding Lt Gen Prateek Sharma. Lt Gen Ghai, who has significant expertise in counter-terrorism, has previously worked closely with Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi during his tenure as Northern Army Commander. Two senior Principal Staff Officers at Army Headquarters, including the Deputy Chief Strategy and the Deputy Chief of Capability Development and Sustenance, are set to retire on October 31. Numerous officers have already been assigned to new roles, such as the 3 Corps in Dimapur and the new Army War College Commandant, based on the latest postings list released on July 22.
