On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Paralympic athlete Ajeet Singh, who secured a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw F46 event at Stade de France during the Paris Paralympics. In a post on X, PM Modi stated, “A remarkable achievement by Ajeet Singh with his Silver medal in the Men's Javelin Throw F46 at #Paralympics2024! His dedication and perseverance have made India proud." Ajeet clinched silver with a personal best throw of 65.62m in a dramatic final effort. His teammate Sundar Singh Gurjar, repeating his Tokyo performance, earned bronze with a season-best throw of 64.96m. Cuba's Guillermo took gold with a top throw of 66.14m. President Droupadi Murmu also extended her congratulations: “Heartfelt congratulations to Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar for winning silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s javelin throw at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Their medals, following Sumit Antil’s gold, enhance India's achievements in javelin events. I hope they continue to bring glory to our nation.” India’s javelin throwers excelled at the Paris Paralympics, with Ajeet Singh and world record holder Sundar Singh Gurjar winning silver and bronze in the F46 category with throws of 65.62m and 64.96m, respectively. The Indian team has now amassed a record 20 medals in a single Paralympic Games. On Monday and Tuesday alone, India added 13 more medals, totaling three gold, seven silver, and 10 bronze. Additionally, Para-athletes Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu achieved a double podium finish for India in the men's high jump T6 final at the Paris Paralympics. Sharad won silver with a leap of 1.88m, while Mariyappan took bronze with 1.85m. America’s Ezra Frech set a new Paralympic record with a gold-winning jump of 1.94m.
