Patrice Motsepe vows to continue progress following CAF re-election

Patrice Motsepe has pledged to build on the progress made during his first term after being re-elected unopposed as President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for another four years. His re-election was confirmed at the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo on Wednesday, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in attendance.Motsepe, who took over from Ahmad Ahmad in 2021, has overseen a financial turnaround, including a record $72 million profit from Africa Cup of Nations 2023, the settlement of outstanding debts, and increased funding for competitions and member associations.“The goal remains making African football competitive on the international stage, stabilising finances, and investing in infrastructure that allows our teams and players to thrive,” Motsepe said.Elections for CAF’s Executive Committee were also held, with Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto’o and Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku securing a seat.Motsepe’s second term runs until 2029, as he looks to strengthen African football’s global standing.
