Rwanda's Uwikunda to officiate Ghana vs. Angola AFCON qualifier
Rwanda's Samuel Uwikunda has been appointed as the main referee for the opening match of Ghana's 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Angola.The match is scheduled for September 5th at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.The 37-year-old referee is a seasoned official with experience in top-tier African competitions including the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, CHAN, and previous AFCON tournaments.He will be assisted by fellow Rwandans Dieudonne Mutuyimana and Eric Mugabo, with Ruzindana Nsoro as the Fourth Official.Ghana, aiming to end a 43-year AFCON drought, will be under pressure to secure a victory in front of their home fans.With a revamped squad led by coach Otto Addo, the Black Stars are looking to make a strong start to their qualifying campaign.The 2025 AFCON tournament is set to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
