Frimpong Manso hails Burkhard Ziese for revolutionising Black Stars under his tenure

Former Ghana international Stephen Frimpong Manso has lauded ex-Black Stars coach Burkhard Ziese for his significant contributions to the team’s discipline and overall conditions during his tenure in the 1990s.Frimpong Manso, who was a member of the Black Stars from 1987 to 1994, reflected on the transformative impact Ziese had during his time as head coach from 1990 to 1993.Speaking to Joy Sports, Manso highlighted the stark improvements made under Ziese’s leadership.At the time, players faced poor training conditions and inadequate facilities, issues that were largely overlooked by the Sports Ministry and other authorities. Frimpong Manso credited Ziese with confronting these challenges directly and fighting for better conditions.“He [Burkhard Ziese] brought in discipline. There were a lot of things that weren't right at that time. But he came and changed everything. That’s when we started winning. Discipline-wise, it wasn't the best, and he was also fighting for players' welfare,” Frimpong Manso said.“He would fight with the authorities, the ministry, and everybody, to get what he wanted. Sometimes, we would be playing against teams like Ivory Coast. They would stay in a five-star hotel while the home team, us, were not treated as well,” he added....
