Augustine Arhinful criticises Otto Addo's substitutions in Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Niger

Former Ghana striker Augustine Arhinful has voiced his disappointment with Black Stars coach Otto Addo's substitutions during Ghana’s 1-1 draw against Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.Arhinful specifically questioned the decision to replace Majeed Ashimeru with Elisha Owusu when the Black Stars were leading by a single goal.He believes that Owusu’s introduction had little impact on the game and suggested that Addo could have delayed the defensive substitution until the closing minutes."When Ashimeru was leaving the game, I told my brother I don’t know why he [Addo] was bringing Owusu on at that point. Let's ask ourselves, what did Owusu do when he came on? You can bring him on with two or three minutes left," Arhinful said in an interview with Peace FM.Ghana had initially taken the lead through Alidu Seidu, with an assist from Mohammed Kudus, but Niger equalised later through defender Oumar Sako.Arhinful added, "We were dominating possession, but what was the final result? Were we just protecting a one-goal lead? The team sat too deep, and I’m not sure what instructions were given to Owusu and Partey. They need to assess and improve."Ghana now turns...
