The Snuneymuxw [Snoo-NAI-muk] First Nation is the new owner of Casino Nanaimo. In an announcement this week, the nation said its Petroglyph Development Corporation has signed a deal with Great Canadian Entertainment to buy the casino in downtown Nanaimo, and reclaim the associated land. Chief Mike Wyse says the deal will "bring significant benefits and substantial economic growth” to his Nation and to the local community. Erralyn Joseph, Petroglyph’s president, says the group will “remain committed to advancing the region's economic growth in support of all its residents.” The deal remains subject to closing conditions and regulatory approval, but it was unanimously approved by Great Canadian Entertainment’s Board of Directors. Details of the purchase price remain private. The post Nanaimo First Nation buys downtown casino appeared first on My Campbell River Now.
