Province funds free literacy programs for adults

Adults looking to improve their literacy skills will have access to free programs. The provincial government is investing $3.4 million in the community adult literacy program (CALP), a program aiming to help people improve skills in reading, writing, math, and digital skills. As part of the funding, 102 literacy programs will be supported for 132 communities this year, with the goal of getting the public ready for job and economic opportunities. The programs have volunteers, who offer one-on-one tutoring, small classes, and drop-in support. They add funding runs on a two-year cycle, with the current cycle being 2023 to 2025. The CALP year starts on September 1 this year, ending on August 31 next year. The post Province funds free literacy programs for adults appeared first on My Cowichan Valley Now.
