Muskoka preparing to celebrate Canada Day

There will be plenty to do throughout Muskoka over the Canada Day long weekend.  The festivities begin on Saturday with the “See Muskoka Through Our Eyes” powwow at Annie Williams Memorial Park in Bracebridge.  The event continues Sunday.  Walkers Point Marina at 1035 Marina Rd. in Gravenhurst is hosting its festivities on Saturday with events scheduled from noon to 9 p.m., including the Muskoka Extreme ski show, live music, and a fireworks display at dusk.  Also on Saturday, the Honey Harbour Library in the Township of Georgian Bay will celebrate with an event from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. with a handful of prize draws held throughout the day.  On Canada Day, a fireworks display at 10 p.m. will cap off Bracebridge’s celebration, however, it will be preceded by activities from 4 to 8 p.m. on Manitoba St. Most businesses will remain open and there will be plenty of games set up, like pickle ball, badminton, and cornhole.   The Rotary Club of Bracebridge will be hosting concerts will be happening at Memorial Park, Manitoba St., and Bracebridge Bay throughout the day. The schedule is on the Rotary Club’s website.   The PBY-5A Canso, a restored World War II plane, will be landing at the Muskoka Airport in Gravenhurst on Canaday Day. It will be displayed from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. with attendees able to step onto the plane and ask questions of the people who worked on restoring it.  Gull Lake Rotary Park will host the festivities in Gravenhurst from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. with backyard games, face painting, and a free barbeque among the activities.   Celebrations in Huntsville kick off with Muskoka Heritage Place opening at 9:30 a.m., which will include live music and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on-site. Admission to the museum and Pioneer Village is free with the donation of a non-perishable food item to The Salvation Army's branch in Huntsville. Huntsville's River Mill Park will host live music, and lawn games - including "giant Jena" - from 2 until 9 p.m. The day's festivities will wrap up with a fireworks display over Hunters Bay at 10 p.m. A barbecue will be held at Port Sydney Beach from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. with The Cameron of Lochiel Pipes and Drums performing.  Lake of Bays is celebrating Canada Day at the Oxtongue Community Centre in Dwight from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. with activities including a celebration of the arts, musical interludes, and balloon blowing. The Muskoka Lakes Museum in Port Carling will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., offering free admission along with activities throughout the day.
