Regulations for BC hunters updated for next 2 years

Expect some changes while you’re out hunting, as the BC government is updating its hunting regulations. In a release, the province says the updated regulations is for the 2024 to 2026 hunting and trapping season, with the goal of managing wildlife, respect the hunting rights of First Nations, and to provide hunters recreational and economic opportunities. The regulations are reviewed every 2 years, with changes made by information on wildlife populations and collaborating with First Nations and stakeholder groups. Updates include lifting some restrictions, such as the motor vehicle prohibitions following the 2021 wildfires, bringing or lowering hunting opportunities, taking action to lower the spread of chronic wasting disease, and improving reporting requirements for moose and caribou hunters. They say for Vancouver Island, you are encouraged to not intentionally feed or bait turkey or ungulate within 200 metres of a dwelling, schoolyard or playground. The province adds through these updates, they hope to develop an approach to wildlife co-management with First Nations and stakeholders that improves stewardship of wildlife. These new regulations are in effect from July 1 this year to June 30, 2026. For more info, click here.
