Autism Ontario North Region hosting family mini-golf in support of community

Autism Ontario North Region is holding a family mini-golf to support and advocate for the autism community. Caitlin Griffin, Autism Ontario North Region regional program and volunteer coordinator, says the event is tomorrow (Aug. 8) from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Northern Escapades Mini Golf in Bracebridge. She adds they are also having family mini-golf events in Sudbury, Timmins, and Thunder Bay on Aug. 10. “We held this event last year, and since it was such a great success and everyone enjoyed it, we're bringing it back this year,” says Griffin. “It means that families with autistic children who may not have previously been able to participate and enjoy this event and others like it are now able to.” She adds events like these embody Autism Ontario’s mission, which is creating a supportive and inclusive Ontario for autism. “It’s simply a fun day out for our families and has been funded through other grants/partnerships that we have at Autism Ontario,” continues Griffin. “Much of the work that we do is made possible by donations. Although this event is not a fundraiser, Autism Ontario is a registered charity.” Griffin says through donations they are able deliver quality programs and activities for autistic children, youth, and adults, offering resources webinars and/or training workshops that promote advocacy, provide support, and offer the latest news in autism research. “These programs and events connect our community members, providing opportunities to get involved, socialize, and network. We actively seek out local community partners to collaborate with,” continued Griffin. “We organize events with our communities in mind” For more information on the family mini-golf or on how to donate, click here.
