Downtown Bracebridge will be crowded with plenty of happy feet walking to raise money and awareness for gender-based violence prevention in Muskoka. The ninth annual Walk a Mile in Their Shoes will be hosted by YWCA Muskoka and Muskoka Pride from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sept. 29 at Bracebridge's Memorial Park. The YWCA's goal is to raise $25,000. Anyone wanting to donate or create a fundraising team can do that through CanadaHelps.org. The YWCA recently asked the District of Muskoka to support the organization in applying for the National Emergency Survivor Support fund. Amy Jones, director of youth services, adds the district declared gender-based and intimate partner violence an epidemic last April. “With the community’s help, we can all raise young people to live free of violence,” continues Jones. “We hope to see families, athletics teams, clubs, local businesses, community leaders, and individuals come out and Walk a Mile for violence prevention initiatives in Muskoka.” Jones shares YWCA Muskoka has provided financial support to 35 survivors in the past year.
