Beyond the Headlines - Speed camera proceeds and pledge

It's always impressive when a politician literally puts their money where their mouth is, to use the popular expression. Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis will be bringing forward a proposal to forego the 2025 portion of the 1% tax increase previously committed in the City’s budget to fund The Bridge homelessness hub, saving money for taxpayers. Instead, the city would make up the money by directing revenue from the City’s Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras to both The Bridge project and the City’s Doctor Recruitment Program.
